Self-confidence in the Interview:
Self-confidence comes off as calm and collected answers to questions and there is no shame or embarrassment when you don’t know the answer to a question. A comfortable “I am sorry I don’t know the answer to the question…” is all you need to say.
Also when you don’t get the question right or didn’t hear it, you can confidently ask “Can you please repeat the question, I didn’t hear you correctly/follow it?..”. There is no nervousness or guilt feeling when this happens.
At no point do you treat the interview as a viva-voce where you are the mouse and the panelists are the hungry cats! There are no marks or consequences to be worried about if you don’t do well, the worst outcome is you don’t get the job. So relax be yourself and talk confidently.
Have a relaxed body language, don’t lean in forward, sit back with a relaxed posture and don’t be afraid to ask them to repeat the question if you didn’t hear it correctly.
Imagine you are an 8th semester student with first semester juniors sitting in front of you. What would be your attitude, body language? Would you have a smile or nervousness written all over your face? You should go into the interview as if you are facing juniors!
All this comes with self-confidence. Start working on it if you want to do this like a pro!
Self-esteem in the Interview:
This plays a role in being undeterred when you don’t know the answer or when other freshers are better qualified than you. You don’t show too much eagerness to the panel in hopes of securing a job offer. No desperation here. All cool as a cucumber. Also this will play a part in salary negotiation, as you won’t see yourself as worthy of a low salary compared to peers. You value your time and skills and want a respectable market rate salary for these qualities. Nothing less, nothing more.
Communication skills in the Interview:
As I said earlier, communication skills can be many things. But for our purposes, we will stick to art of talking, listening and body language.
Having these skills would be to listen intently and ask the right questions. Seek opinions etc.
I will cover this in detail in the interview chapter.
