‘Urgent’, ‘Immediate’, ‘Notice Period’.
If you see any of the above keywords in the job posting, it means only one thing! They are desperate to fill the position. Maybe the employee left with short notice or worse due to an emergency, they have not been able to find a replacement in time or it could be some other reason. But the reasons don’t matter to you!
“One man’s misfortune is another man’s fortune!“.
The only thing that matters is that you have an opportunity on hand!
If you are in desperate need of a job, try searching for your preferred job titles prefixed with any of the above keywords. Once you find a list, apply to every single one of them with your customized and targeted resume, and the corresponding cover letter. Tweak the resume and cover letter if needed.
Make sure to add the “immediately available” sentence in your cover letter! Look up my sample cover letter for reference.
Find out the contact details, phone number preferably and call them immediately. Talk to them at length about your perfectly matching skills and try to schedule an interview on the same call. Be energetic, proactive in your phone call, don’t show desperation though, but convey your interest clearly! Offer to send your resume to their email. Sometimes recruiter’s use a common email, by sending it to their private work email, you can expect a quicker response and it is easier to follow up to schedule the interview.
If you play your cards right, the recruiters will be relieved to have a found a matching candidate. Make FULL use of this situation!
If there is no contact information, go to the company website, call their contact number and tell them you are calling about the open position you saw on Naukri or wherever it was. Tell them to connect you to the manager of that team or the HR.
If you cannot get hold of anyone, go to LinkedIn and search for the company and people. You will most likely find some employees from the company. Connect and contact them.
If you were lazy and didn’t create a LinkedIn profile, there is no escaping, now you have to do it! I told you, you will be forced to make one!
