Operation Follow up

Keep ’em On The Radar

Once you are done with the interview. Send out a ‘Thank you’ email later in the day. If you were not able to get the interviewer’s email at the end of the interview, ask the recruiter for the email and if she asks, just tell her you want to thank the interviewer. Don’t send it immediately after the interview, wait for a few hours or send it in the night after your dinner.

Sample:

Dear Mr. Kumar,

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to interview with you. I believe I will be a good fit for this position as I am interested in working with the technologies involved and also this project is challenging(only say this if it is challenging!) and interesting.

-Optional start-

I have started looking into your suggestion [personal project, skills need..] from the interview, and will be working on it in the coming days.

-End-

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your time.

Your name

You can add the optional paragraph if you would like, if you had discussed something about learning new skills for the job or if you had discussed about a problem you were facing in the personal projects. If the interviewer had given you a suggestion/solution or told what new skills you could learn for this job or your career in general, you can use it in your email and show him you have already started working on it.

Keep in touch with the interviewer or the recruiter to follow up on the hiring decision, this shows you are taking it seriously. You can call or email every few days to enquire, unless they have given a decision date. If there is a date set, wait to hear from them. If you don’t hear from them after the date in question, contact them to find out about the decision.
