New Story

I Own This Place

I did my Mechanical Engineering in Acme Institute of Technology in my hometown. I decided to stay with family instead of moving out of town to get my degree.

I failed couple of subjects due to personal/family problems. I graduated in 2013 but I am still looking for a job and it is almost 2015. I had to take a break from job hunting etc, worked for the family business, helped a friend in his business and hence I was working as a freelancer during this time.

Things have changed a lot in India in the last decade or so. This is the right time to have graduated, more job opportunities than ever before. It is ok if there are not as many ME job opportunities as CS. It is not a big deal if the economy is bad, or if we are in recession or the job market is bad.

There are companies always looking for talented people like me. As long as there are companies in business, there will always be job opportunities. There is ALWAYS a shortage of talented people like me. All I have to do is look deeper and harder than others. Make connections, contact people in companies I want to work for. Internet makes this VERY EASY in addition to watching funny videos on YouTube.

I had trouble with resumes, job search etc. Now I am wiser, I know now how to fix that. Now I have an interview in few days and I am going into the interview fully prepared. The interviewer doesn’t know what he is in for. I have a resume that screams I am different, it is worth looking at me and paying attention to me. I have small stories that showcase my skills and passion for this field. This will help me stand out from the rest of the crowd waiting outside in the lobby holding similar resumes, tables with education and stupid hobbies and personal information.

Here I am armed with a resume which contains information that a manager is yearning to see. All related to the job opening and the profession in general.

I will seek out opportunities during the interview to highlight my skills, confidence and team player attitude. I will be noticed in the interview and I will make sure of that. Only I can make a difference in my life and I will.

I am looking for a job not because society dictates it or my parents expect me to. I am looking for a job and want a job because I want to further my career and get ahead in life. I have goals, dreams from my childhood I want to fulfill and it all starts with a job. I will do what it takes to secure my job.

I will not be frustrated if I don’t do well in the interview, I won’t be embarrassed if I did poorly in aptitude test or answering technical questions. I will learn from every failure. I will go home relax for a while and then study my mistakes in the interview. No matter the outcome, I will walk out of every interview with new knowledge. It could be technical knowledge or the body language of the interviewer, my mistakes etc.

I realize job hunting is a process that will go on until I find a job. It is a video game, keep playing until I win. I learn from every mistake and don’t repeat it in the next try!

For my upcoming interview I will walk in with the fact that I make or break the interview. It depends on how I go in prepared, how I deal with not knowing an answer and how I handle any pressure being applied by the panel. I will not blame anyone for the failure, I will only learn from the failure. I will also not blame religion, caste, geography of the interviewers for the failures.

I am going to be charming and self-assured. It’s just another interview. If I don’t do well, I will do well in the next one. I will remember this chapter when I walk into the interview.

I will prepare well and give my 100% in preparation and the interview. Nobody can stop me now!
