Do You Make These Mistakes In Your Resume?

Did you know the attention span of the humans is getting smaller and smaller?
And the recruiters reading your resume are probably humans.
Just kidding of course they are human!
Can you imagine going through hundreds of ugly, crappy resumes everyday?
I’d probably get clinical depression after the first day.
With the amount of resumes they have to go through they are going to skip a resume quickly if they don’t see relevant details while doing a quick scan. Before committing the time to go through the resume closely.
Why waste time and energy if it doesn’t have what they are looking for?
Your resume should be full of helpful information that is relevant to the job opening you are applying for ,or at least remotely connected.
Get rid of anything that is irrelevant.
Any time I see some of the common mistakes my blood boils.
You know the mistakes I am talking about.
I have seen the same mistakes repeated by so many freshers it’s like they decided to conspire against the recruiters to make their life difficult.
Like giving a hard time to teachers back in the college days was not enough.
Now they want to continue that with the recruiters too.
If you are doing these mistakes please immediately stop.
It is doing you no good.
It’s like buying a movie ticket and then tearing it up at the entrance.
Why do you want to kill your chances of getting interviews?
Do you like being miserable? While others are happily scoring interviews and get offered high-paying jobs?
If you are serious about getting a high-paying job avoid the below mistakes.
What Not To Add
Mistake 1: Truth declaration
LOL.
I don’t know how else to react to this. Nobody cares about the declaration. This is not an affidavit for a court case!
There’s no doubt many people lie in their resumes and put this.
Recruiters know this and won’t take this declaration seriously.
You are just helping your resume to end up in the trash bin.
Stop wasting the valuable real estate and put something helpful to the recruiter instead.
Mistake 2: Hobbies
This is not a bio data.
Lose it.
Doesn’t make sense unless it directly helps doing the job you are applying for.
Mistake 3: Family details
Again not needed.
Unless they are looking to hire your whole family!
Mistake 4: Adding content in tables
At least don’t use it in resumes you are planning to upload to job portals.
The scanning software might be unable to read the contents correctly and miss some of your skills and experience.
You don’t want that to happen.
Avoid using tables please.
Mistake 5: Typos & other mistakes
It really rubs me the wrong way when people have typos in official communication.
There is no room for that.
Please make sure double check and triple check your resume.
This is a bigger mistake than the creation of veg biryani!
What To Add Instead
Add projects, extra curricular activities that show coding skills or organizational or leadership skills.
If you don’t have any projects to add work on some cool personal projects and add that even if they are incomplete treat them as work-in-progress in interviews.
Picture of a drunk unicorn to bring good luck.
Just kidding I want to make sure you are paying attention!
- Buzz words that relate to the jobs and tech stack you are applying for. Helps in showing your resume search results like naukri when the recruiter searches for candidates with certain coding skills and buzzwords. Like Java, certification etc.
- Add exciting projects you are working on or projects that are relevant the job opening you are applying to.
- Right amount of information. Not too much and not too less. If you have less than 2 years experience your resume should not be more than 2 pages unless you have done some really impressive work.
That’s it for resume mistakes.
Don’t blindly copy-paste bad resumes.
It will do you no good.
Get out of the herd mentality if you want to succeed in life.
Add details that help the recruiter in deciding if you are qualified for the job opening so that you can be shortlisted for an interview.
