Dear Mr. Employer,
I am a committed candidate interested in joining your software development team.
I am a recent computer science graduate with a passion for technology—particularly software development. I’d like the opportunity to tell you about my experiences in the software development field and how I believe I can benefit your company. Here are a few of my best achievements:
After graduation, I have been learning C# and .NET technologies and getting good at it. I have focused on learning both desktop and web development. I have listed couple of personal projects I am currently working on to gain experience and skills. The attached resume has all the details of these projects not included here.
Personal Projects
- Web Scraper– This is a WPF application which can scrape data from websites using HTML Agility Pack. I have used BackgroundWorker Class to retain a responsive GUI and the other reason was to get familiar with multi-threading. The data can be stored in multiple data stores.
- Super Minds – This is a web application I am developing based on MVC framework and ASP.NET. This is a user based application to improve productivity and uses membership provider available in ASP.NET. The user data is stored in MS SQL Server and the web application is hosted on Azure Web Services.
Final Year Project
Student Blackboard Application
This is a MVC web application built by my team using ASP.NET. This application enables professors to interact with their students. They can share class notes, slides and home work assignments. Students can also upload their homework. Entity Framework was used for the data access layer.
I would like the opportunity to talk to you about my qualifications and skills as they relate to your engineering and software needs. I would like to arrange an interview with you at your earliest convenience.
I am immediately available to start work.
I would be glad to send you any other information. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your time. Sincerely,
Gabbar Singh
P.S. I am passionate about software development, especially with .NET and would like to make it the main focus of my career. I sincerely believe I am a good fit for this opportunity and would love to schedule an interview!
Notes:
- Mix and match the introduction and PS sentences I have provided in the cover letter chapter.
- Use exclamation marks wisely. Don’t use more than twice. Exclamation marks can be effective, if you are unsure, don’t use them. It is OK.
- Don’t make it a super lengthy cover letter.
- Make sure to use a P.S.
- Experiment with bold relevant tech keywords used in the project and job experience summary. In this sample it would be words like ASP.NET, Entity Framework, MS SQL etc.
