Self-confidence:
Managers at companies don’t want shy/nervous employees who act like new brides. They want somebody who can hold their own. They want to avoid people who need to be spoon-fed and supervised constantly. One thing you will learn once you are employed is that you will be pressed for time. With the amount of time spent in commuting, meetings and putting out fires, the last thing a manager wants is a fresher who is not confident and cannot make simple decisions by himself.
The more confident you are and intuitive at your job, the happier he will be. The lesser people to deal with, the better it is for the managers. So obviously they will look for candidates who can work independently and without supervision. You will often see this mentioned in job responsibilities. It is not to say they don’t want to supervise you at all. They will when needed, just not for simple and basic things.
Confidence also helps in dealing with clients and vendors. When tempers are flying, deadlines are not met. Being confident can help in dealing with these sticky situations. Sometimes they can be unreasonable and demanding. A confident person will be better at tiptoeing in this situation and handling them diplomatically without showing any fear.
Self-esteem:
Without you valuing yourself highly, others won’t as well. It will come off in your personality that you don’t value yourself much. This is a bad sign for the manager. They want somebody who is proud (healthy amount) and holds his/her own. If a person has low self-esteem, he is susceptible to bullies at the workplace.
Communication Skills:
The written and verbal skills come in handy, especially when dealing with clients and vendors. This is especially helpful when you are dealing with on-site teams, English speaking teams etc.
In times of crisis, these qualities will come in handy to deal with difficult and demanding higher-ups from other teams, clients etc., these are desirable qualities for any employer.
